Thought for the Week

God sent a cleaner

Sometimes in life we can feel like our lives are topsy-turvy; all our normal routines are upside down. It may feel like our lives are like a snow globe and someone has given it a good shake. People’s lives around the world have all been shaken up and nothing is normal – we talk about the new normal as every three weeks there are slight moderations to the lockdown. Each of us are navigating this unknown territory.

As Christians we  know that God is with us. We may not always sense his presence with us in our personal situations; however, God’s word promises us that He is with us everyday.

Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you’

Hebrews 13:5

The Bible acknowledges that we all go through difficult times, but one constant is that God is a personal God who walks with us during that time.

A recent survivor of Covid-19 Pastor Lee McClelland described his experience of God’s presence with him in hospital. His story is titled: ‘The day God sent a cleaner’. A cleaner was the only person allowed into the ICU. He was separated from his family. To sum up the story, as Lee battled with Covid-19, a cleaner stopped and spoke with him then prayed for him as he left. That night, Lee began to improve. As he began to recover, he had a real craving for prawn cocktail crisps and a can of coke. He prayed to God knowing that no one could hear him and get anything for him. The next morning, the cleaner dropped off a plastic bag with 2 oranges, prawn cocktail crisps and a can of coke, along with a note ‘From the Lord’.

We may sometimes doubt that there is a personal God, who knows our needs and who is with us every day. Take hope – God is with us.  May you too have a sense this week of God with you.
